Behind the scenes

About

It all started on an epic journey through Central Asia, where I spotted a Roof of the World Regatta going on in Karakul, Tajikistan. An ultra-scenic lake and colorful kites were what got me. A few weeks later I had a closer look at kites in the land of wind – Azerbaijan, a not-so-typical destination for someone who would choose for kitesurfing …

There were a few places and a lot of wind hunting before I finally caught the right wind and learned to kite for good! ????

Tarifa off-season, where as a total newbie, you have no clue why your kite school doesn’t call you for a class, but you see a beach full of kiters (offshore wind 🤷‍♀️).

The end of the kite season a month too early in Sri Lanka, because the monsoon decided that way. (Perfect place to kite otherwise!) I finally managed to ride for the first time.

An unexpected discovery of a kite school and spot in Cambodia – Kampot, a bit in late season, but one windy day!!

Back to Azerbaijan to the awesome Shuraabat lagoon, where I finally reached the level of independent kiter (or so I thought!), upwind & even the first transitions… Until, a couple of months later, I landed in Gran Canaria (300 windy days!) and figured out that a windy day ≠ kite day as waves can be HUGE, or simply too much wind (40+ kn!!)… Felt like a beginner again, because after only riding in flat water, waves can be a bit bi* 🌊🌊 But now without them can be boring.

During that journey, I started with Kite Jungle, simply to match the wind season with kite spots (and other data) .. I hope Kite Jungle is doing a decent job in that 🤙

Kite Jungle – to find the best kite destinations per month, including even the remote kite spots.

A digital nomad by heart, based in Costa Tropical, Spain 🌴🇪🇸.
