EditBuen Hombre is a quiet fishing village on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, about 30 minutes from Monte Cristi. The bay is protected by a long coral reef, so the water inside is flat and waist-to-chest deep over sand, which makes it one of the best flat-water and beginner spots in the Caribbean. Trade winds blow cross-onshore from the east/north-east at 15-25 knots most days from December to August, strongest in the afternoon. Outside the reef there are waves for advanced riders. Downwinders to Punta Rucia, Cayo Arena and the Cayos Siete Hermanos are possible with a boat.
It is your responsibility to check whether kitesurfing is allowed at the spot; you might need a 'special permit' or membership from a local kite organization, etc. Local rules can change. Respect others - kiters or not; kite safely and enjoy the wind!
